You can use this tool to check as many domain names as you like.

How do I choose the right domain names?

Generally you would register a domain name that matches your business name, brand name, product or service. For Australian businesses it is a good idea to select a domain name that ends in .au. This immediately identifies you as being Australian.

Some important things to consider when making your choice are:

  • Will it be easy to spell and remember when heard?
  • Avoid hyphens and numbers when possible
  • Keep it as short as practical
  • You can register variations of your domain name and use them for the same web site

When you search for domain names above, we’ll also offer some suggestions based on the name you enter.

What does the end of a domain name mean?

.com.au        .net.au        .org.au
Australian domain names end with .au, and are available to all Australian businesses and organisations. Unlike .com, .net and .org there are specific rules that govern the registration of Australian domain names. This is to ensure that all .au web sites have a legitimate Australian business or entity behind them.

.co.uk        .org.uk
United Kingdom domain names end with .uk, and are available to eligible UK businesses and organisations. There are specific rules that govern the registration of UK domain names. A copy of these rules is available from Nominet’s web site.

.com        .net        .org        .biz        .info        .name
These top level domains (TLD’s) are available for everyone to register. When possible it is a good idea to register your domain name with as many of these extensions to ensure that someone else does not do it.

Domain Transfers

If you have an existing domain name and would like to transfer the renewal and administration of it to us then one (1) additional year is automatically added as part of the process. Domain names that have been registered within the past 60 days can not be transferred.

.au domain names are free to transfer during their registration period. No additional registration period is applied for .au transfers.
